sweet times

When I started blogging about two years ago it was really just a way of keeping my family overseas up to date with our adoption of Haven. I knew absolutely nothing about blogging. It just sounded like a good idea at the time--an easy way to let my family follow us to China for Haven.

Then I discovered the joy of sharing my life here. Blogging has stretched and challenged me in so many ways. Writing has never been my thing. In the past, if anything had to be written for our ministry, I just gave it to my hubby to do. He's the one with the degree in journalism, and a far better writer than I could ever be. But through his little blog of mine the Lord is teaching me to persevere and keep on keeping on--even in the midst of my writing insecurities. It's all good.

Anyway.

One of the most incredible joys of blogging has been the people I have met here. Each and every comment, every e-mail, and every person I have had the privilege of meeting in real life have enriched my life so deeply.

This weekend we got to hang out with a family who have become dear friends in real life. Kristin and I met last winter. She and her hubby just adopted their beautiful Nadia from the Ukraine. It has been so wonderful to journey with them, and watch Nadia's story unfold.

Sweet Nadia just arrived home this week--her new life has begun. Such an amazing thing.

How absolutely precious is she?

Such a little angel girl.

Her big sister is amazing.  How she adores this little one. It warmed my heart to see the love Josi has for her baby sister. The extra chromosome makes them both just absolutely and completely adorable in every way.

Dads and their beautiful girls.

Three babies SAVED!

(For everyone who asked, no, Hailee has not graduated from the hat yet.  We are trying to wean her off it. She still scratches behind her ear, but it is getting better and better.)

The beautiful gift of friendship.  How blessed I am.

Look who has discovered that legs are actually there to be stood on--and feet are for balancing NOT putting in your mouth.

She's so proud of herself.

Little Miss Harper (or "Harpy" as she is known around here) is loving her new found standing adventure.  She is pulling herself up on everything.  Harper has such low muscle tone (very typical for children with Down syndrome), so this is a wonderful achievement for her. I know it won't be long before she'll be running around here and keeping everyone on their toes.  Oh my goodness, she is just such a little treasure.

Life is finally starting to feel a bit more normal in our home.  Most of the boxes are unpacked.  I have painted the main living areas. I love having a bit of color on the walls. Next room--the kitchen.  We have a traditional English basement kitchen which has no windows.  I call it the dungeon.  I cannot wait put some color in there.  Maybe this week...you know, in all my spare time.

We have been so warmly welcomed into our new community.  We're excited, and wait with hearts of expectation to see what God has in store for us here.

It is so wonderful when we find like-minded families, and amazing that the Lord has used the Blogging World to bring so many together.

Last fall, I took 7 of my children on a 7,300 mile Road Trip ... to meet some Bloggy Friends. We had an AMAZING time, connecting with Blog Friends in CO, OK, TX, LA, and OR. Oh my! So fun!

We are planning our next cross-country Road Trip for August. So wish that we were headed YOUR way. We drove to VA on a 5 week Road Trip in 2006, and had a van fire there, which got us stuck in Manasses (?) for 5 days (without a vehicle to see the sites in the area). Oh so not fun!

I'll let you know when we head your way again. (We have family in PA and in DC.) We would LOVE to meet your precious family.

Blessings,

Laurel :)

Wow, Harper is absolutely adorable, as is little Nadia! Such sweet girls! And such gorgeous eyes they have, both of them. And both look like their mothers too! Incredible!

Such wonderful news that Harper is standing up. She will indeed soon be running around....:-)

I really love the determined look on Hailee's face when in your arms. That made me laugh :-)

Is it kind to tell us you've painted, and not show us the colours? Come on :-)

Hi there, you mentioned a few posts back that you raised your money for your adoptions, how did you do that? We have adopted from China, and now are looking to adopt from Ethiopia, but with three children, it may take us a long time. I know that my God is bigger than 30K, but do you have any suggestions as to where to start?
On a different note, I love your honesty. You are a beautiful woman of God, May He continue to bless you and your beautiful family.

How wonderful that you got to spend time with such precious friends! The girls are simply delicious! Love all the pics...they totally warmed my heart and made me smile.

Can't wait to see pics of your painting projects and what you will do with your windowless kitchen. I'm sure you'll add a generous splash of Adeye that will brighten it up beautifully!

Love you, friend!!!

How exciting to get "the girls" all together! I happen to follow both of your blogs - it's wonderful to see so many beautiful faces in one, wonderful blog!

As a writer and a journalist I will say I LOVE every word of your blog. A blog is NOT a time to work... it is time to express, and you do it wonderfully!
Tomorrow, we are headed up to the Richmond area with our own crew for a Busch Gardens vacation. Lets hope this heat wave subsides a bit for all of us, shall we?

You've found time to paint? Dang - what - you sleep 2 hours a day or something? ;)

It is very cool to be able to transition from a virtual friend to one IRL - we've had that chance a couple times with blogs we follow - yeah - it's really cool!

hugs - aus and co.

So precious. I love reading your blog.

God is so faithful. It is nothing short of miraculous watching an adopted child learning new skills. One of our Ethiopian sons was highly developmentally delayed upon homecoming...low muscle tone, not walking at 16 months, lethargic etc. Within two months of joining our family he was walking and gaining weight. Parenting children from difficult backgrounds may have its challenges, but it is so incredibly rewarding. To see God's hand in their lives, and to think we get to play a role.

Thanks so much for offering this peek into your lives!!!
