The family has asked now that people NOT contact government offices or
media outlets at this time! Things on the ground are in the works, and
at this time all they NEED is prayer.
Body of Christ, I come to you tonight begging for your prayers.
I got an urgent prayer request passed on to me from a friend tonight. This is too urgent NOT to share! This family so desperately needs us, the church, to intercede on their behalf. They need us to RISE UP and pray without ceasing! They are fellow adoptive parents trying to adopt a sibling group of FOUR children from Ghana. Unfortunately, things have gone horribly wrong and tonight they are in prison in Ghana--falsely accused of child trafficking! They are separated from the children they are trying to adopt AND their beautiful biological children who are so little. I simply cannot even imagine!
"There is a family in Ghana right now that has been arrested on (unfounded) charges of child trafficking. The family's 6 children (2 bio & 4 newly adopted) have been rendered to the care of a government orphanage while the parents sit in a jail cell in Accra! The bio kids are only 4 & 7 and do not speak the languages of Ghana. The family had their court paperwork with them and the children were all still removed from their parents! PLEASE PRAY for this family!!! The parents' names are Christine & Sol. The US Embassy in Ghana has stated that nothing will be done until Monday, even though there are American born minors affected! PLEASE PRAY for God to intercede and redeem this family! Thank you.
The family's blog is here.
And you can meet them here too.
Meet The Moghadams from AdoptTogether on Vimeo.
Please, please share this everywhere you possibly can! Six children have been separated from their parents today and put into a horrific orphanage while their parents are in prison! Two of those little children are American minors who do not speak the language. I ache for those little ones. How terrifying this must be for them!
We're standing together as the body of Christ and trusting that TRUTH will be revealed and that the captives will be set free! We're believing that our family-in-Christ will be reunited with their children very soon and that the enemy WILL BE DEFEATED!
No plan of the enemy will win, in the name of Jesus! Our God is mighty to save the orphan!
I will keep you updated as I get word. THANK YOU for BEING the body of Christ!
110 sweet thoughts from friends:
praying now.
I recently came across your blog and have been reading along. I thought I would leave my first comment. I don't know what to say except that I have enjoyed reading. Nice blog. I will keep visiting this blog very often.

I just spoke to the State dept and a very nice woman put me on hold and called the Embassy in Ghana and was told they are aware of the situation and are working on Saturday to do all they can do. I asked her if she felt confident in that and she said yes. Praise God and keep on praying and getting the word out.
Praying, but have to say, I don't get it- where is their agency? Who is their contact in Accra? How many people have been calling the emergency line for the Embassy? It's right there on the Embassy website.
Tell them to contact the British embassy or one of our other allies. They will get help faster and will get out of the country sooner.
please let us know any updates when you can, praying for them all. This must be so hard and so terrifying.

Hello everyone, its my first go to see at this web site, and post is actually fruitful designed for me, keep up posting these content. best motor
That the US embassy is refusing to do anything right now is disgusting. I really can't imagine a more horribly Kafka-esque situation. Praying fervently for this family tonight.

LET'S RALLY!!!!!!!
The number for citizen services on the Dept. of State website is 1-888-407-4747. If you can't get anyone to listen, PLEASE contact California Congressmen!
There is a number listed on: http://ghana.usembassy.gov/service.html to call. It is +233-30-2741-775. This is the emergency after hours number. We're calling now.
Has anyone contacted the US Embassy in Ghana? Their info is on their website, http://ghana.usembassy.gov/http/ghana/consular3.html.
No, but we're discussing calling sometime this evening. It is currently 4:00 am on Saturday there.
What about media outlets? Sometimes a little negative press can be just the right kind of pressure to make something happen! Has someone contacted their local news station? Anything to get the attention of the embassy!
Has this made national news at all? More people pulling together and pressing for governmental assistance as well as praying for Divine intervention and a miraculous result? Praying that our God, who is mighty to save, rescues all involved, brings peace to the children, and glory to Himself.
My husband just contacted CNN and is in process of reaching out to local media in the Irvine area.
Praying...posted on FB to rally the troops!! I can't even imagine!!
yes i'm trying to decide whether it would be helpful or harmful. i don't know whether a bunch of americans calling the embassy in the middle of the night would make them angry and less cooperative, or whether it would make them pay attention to what's going on. i don't know the family at all, nor any details. accra is not a small city, and i couldn't tell them where the couple is located, what jail, where they were staying, which orphanage the kids are in, etc., and not having pertinent info such as that might not be helpful to convince the embassy its worth looking into. it might just make me an annoyance to them and impact the situation in a negative way. probably just going to pray for tonight!!!
Praying too! Our God is ready and able! We serve a mighty God! May our prayers be answered and this family be rescued from the lion's mouth! God bless this family! Already passed this on to FB too!
I emailed tips@nbcla.com for NBC Los Angeles and included the link to this blog. If there is someone with all the information they can call the news desk at 818-840-3425
You have GOT to be kidding. Only I know you're not. On one hand I'm sick to my stomach and on the other the song "mighty to save" by Hillsongs United came to mind.
Please continue to pray! If you are on twitter, will you please share this post with the hashtag #Moghadamfamily We're aiming to get this trending on twitter in hopes that (A) more people will be made aware & will pray and (B) if it trends high enough maybe the morning national news (Today Show, GMA) will mention it and bring more pressure on the US Dept of State to intercede. Thanks!
This information is known and the embassy IS aware. They have told the family they will do nothing until Monday. PLEASE pray our mighty God will move them immediately as this is a situation that simply CAN NOT wait!
Do we need to have the location of the jail where the parents are and orphanage where kids are, or just their names?
They were stopped in Accra, but taken to a prison in Kumasi. All six children are at OSU Children's HOME.
I am wondering how we know this is happening. I've seen it in several places but haven't found one credible source for the story. Just the same paragraph. Anyone have any links?
Praying and sharing! I cannot imagine! Praying for a way for God's name to be glorified and what Satan meant for harm, God to use it for HIS purposes!
Their agency, Dillon International, is aware of what is happening. You can contact them. This has rocked the Ghana adoption community today! Many are personal friends with the family. We have verified with many people that the information is accurate.
As much as we need to be working towards and praying for their release we need to also be praying for their hearts and their children. We can't even begin to imagine the scars this will leave on all of them.
Dear God, I pray that even now someone who can affect things is working to resolve this situation. Please reunite this family EVEN NOW and send them (all 8 of them) HOME to the US EVEN NOW. In the strong name of Jesus who can do even more than we ask for or imagine. Amen.
Tonight, I pray for this couple: First, binding the accusations, according to the promise of Christ, in Mt. 16:19 and also loosing complete victory over this detour - set in place by the enemy.
To God be the glory...Lord, be glorified in Your servants.
Praying now. May the Lord send his angel just like He did when Peter was imprisoned and may the jail doors open by themselves and release and reunite this precious family. In the powerful and mighty name of Jesus Christ. Amen
I pray that their adoption agency followed the adoption laws of Ghana. Were the children real orphans or just economic orphans? It would terrible if the biological family were tricked into giving up their kids and the American family innocently became involved in a corrupt process.
In answer to some of the concerns below, I'd say the embassy can sleep when the parents that have been ripped from their children can!
I don't think it is that the embassy refuses to do something. We are currently stationed at an embassy post, and I can assure you that a lot goes on behind the scenes. Most assuredly, those who need to know do know and are more than likely working long hours this weekend. American procedures and policies don't translate in a foreign country, so those assigned to this particular post have been trained and will do whatever it takes to make sure this family- especially the children- are safe. Calling the embassy is not the best option; rather, contact congressmen and continue to pray.
Posting on twitter! Thanks for coming up with a hashtag that will help a lot!
Sorry, the charges are found and they are human traffickers. No amount of prayer is going to save them from what they've done which is Satan's work. I will continue to pray for all the ignorant here and hope these children are allowed to stay in their native country and stop being bought and sold like slaves. International adoption is slavery. Shame on you.
Deeply praying for this entire family and for this to resolve ASAP! In Jesus Name Amen!
Does anyone have any updated information?
Praying, and asking all my friends to do the same!!
The phrase "Our God is mighty to save" has been going through my head too as I pray for this family.
Praying! Praying!!!!
I think they have imprisoned them to get $ and bribes. I have heard in these areas when crimes are committed officials do not intervene unless they are paid. So they see americans, to them any american is very rich and they see $. Will pray for the safety and protection of the families and children whom are seperated from their parents.
I feel pretty sure this is a real report, but it would be more credible if the childrens ages were correct. In the video they were 3 1/2 and 7 at the time, so they can't be 4 and 6 now. I believe God's angels are with those children, and I'll be praying they will be back with their parents soon, and that God will give them all peace whie they wait...
PC here. Heather and her friend Romana are at the jail now trying to help as much as possible. Unfortunately, because it is the weekend there is no one with authority to release them on bail or even dismiss the charges. I have called all the "big men" (read important) I know but because of the sensitive nature of the charge no one is willing to just act on my word.
Just an honest mistake. And yes, this is VERY real and VERY serious. God is hearing the cries of His people and He is moving!
Everything was done according to the law. Their agency is extremely reputable...one of the best!
Amen! I am aching for those little ones.
Posted on my Facebook page! Praying earnestly.........where can we find updates as miracles happen??
I am emailing them now! I will post this in my adoption facebook page also!! Come on People!! FLOOD THEM with emails so they are forced to PAY ATTENTION!!
How can I hellp!? Other than prayers, what news agency can we FLOOD or goverment state official can we flood to make them stand up and take notice! I am apart of the adoptive community and I think we as a community need to band together and do something! I know if it were me, I would pray a ARMY would be fighting for me back home!
I've contacted a colleague of mine who write for CNN, in hopes that she can get national attention on this. Thanks for posting, Adeye.
God has placed the right people on the ground. Things are moving in the right direction. The family has asked to keep the details private until it is a done deal. They have asked for continued prayers. Many of feel helpless right now- we can help them NOW. Pray and if you can, go to http://adopttogether.org/moghadam/ and donate to their adoption fund. They are facing unexpected financial issues as we speak.
I'm curious if anyone can point us to information on the "totally unfounded child trafficking allegations". Most of us know very little of this situation, so I am not making assumptions. I just have a hard time believing Ghana would throw American citizens into prison without some serious concern that the 4 children were being adopted unethically. Not saying this family was at fault-could have been the agency, lawyers, or others involved that covered something up?
I'm wondering the same thing. There is NOTHING on the web other than this same paragragh. Why aren't any of the news media reporting on it? Especially, since it happened at least 12 hours ago. I will certainly pray for the family but I am reluctant to do much more (call congress people, White House, a friend I know from Ghana, etc.) without any details to make it sound like it is not an urban legend. Who is the person that came up with this paragraph to begin with and how do they know the family?
Here is a verse for them: Psalm 68:5-6 "Father to the Fatherless, defender of widows- this is God, whose dwelling is holy. GOD PLACES THE LONELY IN FAMILIES; HE SETS THE PRISONERS FREE AND GIVES THEM JOY". I was reading my Bible after praying for them and this shone out as God's word for them.
Important: The family has asked now that people NOT contact government offices or media outlets at this time! Things on the ground are in the works, and at this time all the want is prayer.
The "language of Ghana" is English. Nearly every adult in Ghana does speak English. I have spent 7 weeks there in 2 trips to Accra.
I will be praying.
I read this and my stomach dropped. This poor family-this is a nightmare. I will be praying for them all day and until this gets resolved...
I am praying. Can anyone give some more background how this was learned that they have been imprisoned? Was a family member here in the USA contacted?
Just talked to Pam Cope with Touch A Life Foundation. She has been in contact with her folks in Kumasi. Sol and Christine are still in jail in Accra. Two houses have been put up as collateral for their bail, but it looks like they will remain in jail for the weekend.
HI, I have read your story here and can not find any other information the this family is being held in prison in Ghana. I wanted to ask where you received your information. There is absolutely no information out there concerning this situation except for your web-site. Dillion International has not even responded to the reports. Could you tell us where you are receiving this informaiton?
It is also strange that this is the only web-site reporting on this!!
We were in Ghana in November of 2011 on a mission trip to combat child slavery. What disgusts me is that we sat in a room with the head of the Anti HumanTrafficking Unit, even had supper wit her, a woman who is aware of the LOCAL human trafficking, Ghanaians trafficking their own children, and yet arrests are slow to come for the THOUSANDS of children still enslaved in the Lake Volta region and elsewhere in Ghana, real child slaves, we met too many to count... but when a family from the U.S. wants to LEGALLY adopt four precious children from Ghana, they are arrested?! I would like to know what she thinks of this and if she is doing something about it. Her name is Patience... Patience Quaye, perhaps, if that is still her last name? She has met and worked with Pres. Obama. She's all about positive press... can she be tracked down?
Touch A Life Foundation in Texas are the North American experts on trafficking in Ghana as well as adoption, since the founder, Pam Cope, adopted two children internationally, and the TAL head of operations in Ghana, the Nichols family, adopted a son, I believe he may be Ghanaian. They could be a source of assistance as well. They're a Christian organization. This world makes so little sense. Praying... praying.
Shannon, might you go back and ask them to not run the story? The family is not wanting that at this time
Adeye, you might consider deleting all the comments encouraging others to contact media, representatives, etc. I know they spurred me to action when I read them, but now seeing the update about tha families wishes, it may be better to only leave praying comments for now, and delete the rest. Just a thought...
4 Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! 5 Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. 6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:4-7
God knows. God sees. God hears. He has them sheltered in a hedge of protection, and while the situation is very scary and very alarming, God has got it under control. There's a reason this has been allowed to happen. I pray for peace that surpasses understanding for the family, and for everyone who fears for them. I pray that the situation will be resolved, the family will be reunited, and that NO HARM will come to anyone because of it. And above all, I pray that to God be the glory forever and ever. I believe He's doing a work in Ghana right now, using this family, and that somebody is going to meet Jesus because of it.
omg the two bio children are experiencing what all international adoptees must feel - alone in a foreign country surrounded by strangers. Sorry for all the kids involved here but can't you people see the irony?

Buying children from unsuspecting parents in Asia or anywhere else in the world is a crime against the World and Humanity, mothers and fathers in foreign countries. It's called International Adoption. Sorry to have to break the news.
I am also an adoptive Mom, having adopted from Ghana 9 months ago. I would disagree that most Ghanaians know English. While it is the national language, I found most people we came in contact with did not know English. Only the highly educated. We were just there in July, August, and last September. This is heart breaking, for this family, for the children of Ghana and the future of their adoptions...for everyone! I can hardly believe it! Praying for this family!
I just saw that this is the same agency as ours! We adopted from Dillon, in fact, we were the first family in Dillon's Ghana program. This is absolutely terrifying to us!

Why don't we all wait and not chip in until we find out what the actual situation is.
The family has been released and are now on their way to pick up their children. Continue to pray that they are able to get all of their children and bring them home.
Looks
like the parents and American born children have been released but they have a legal
battle ahead for their Ghanian kids.
The U.S. Embassy in Accra is well known for not caring one single bit about whether or not an American citizen is in need. I have traveled to Accra for 2 different adoption situations (with friends) and spent many weeks there. U.S. Citizens are regularly DENIED ENTRANCE into the U.S. Embassy in Accra. It is run by non-Americans and very clearly is there to help Ghanaians (rather than to help U.S. Citizens). Sadly . . . I have watched bribes being demanded (and paid). My heart goes out to this family, but I have no confidence in the U.S. Embassy coming to their rescue.
No, sorry, I don't!
I don't know what to think about this. On the one hand, it's absolutely chilling to think of Americans being separated from their children and detained abroad.
However, corruption in international adoption is rampant. There are literally thousands of stories of adoption fraud and child kidnapping. I'm glad that the Ghanaian government is cracking down! This reminds me of the case in Haiti, where missionaries kidnapped children who were not orphans and attempted to smuggle them back to the United States. Those missionaries broke the law and richly deserved the time they spent in jail.
I feel like we don't have enough information about the circumstances of this family's detainment to judge whether or not the concerns of the police were ill-founded. (And no -- it isn't enough that they're "good Christians"!) That said, I do hope this family is released and reunited with their children soon.
I have similar concerns! This story feels decidedly one-sided. I find it hard to believe that the Ghanaian police would arrest Americans for NO reason...
Do we know this for sure?
I'd like to know the same thing.
Thank you Sally for pointing out the consequences of our words. We should educate and inform ourselves before we do anything rash that can bring disastrous results regarding trafficking. Victims as well as others involved can be tortured and/or murdered as well as their fellow victims and their families, etc. The traffickers are not afraid and do not respect authorities let alone someone like a 'regular' person. There are many factors to consider. My previous post lists some excellent organizations that will have the information we need.Blessings
Are you from Ghana?
This is an excellent comment! Thank you for your perspective.
Dillon International is a HIGHLY reputable agency. We are a proud Dillon family and they follow the paperwork to the absolute dotting of I's and crossing of T's. They have been handling adoptions for 40 years. If there was corruption on the Ghanaian side I do not know at all - we adopted from China.
Here are some more ideas to get things moving. What about calling the white house? Here are the numbers:
PHONE NUMBERS
Comments: 202-456-1111
Switchboard: 202-456-1414
Another thing to do, that certifies the credibility of this situation: Issue a press release
The press release should be submitted with accurate information about the family and their locations, as much as what anyone knows, and it should be published by someone that knows the family personally, who can vouch for accuracy, including addresses, phone numbers, etc. This could be the church this family is from, or their adoption agency. Using a service like PRweb would be an inexpensive way to broadcast this story out to the masses , which would surely get the attention of national media outlets.

Praying in Idaho!!!!
Not only is this type of story bad for Ghana, it is bad for the orphans who are left in Ghana waiting for a home. I really wish the rumor mill would stop on this story until things are known for sure. This blog does not contain any first hand information but people who know people, who know people are reporting. I am quite angry that this blog is being posted ALL OVER FACEBOOK and no one knows the facts. Potential adoptive parents will be terrified to adopt from Ghana!!
Can someone please delete the above comment? It is extremely offensive to the Ghanaian government and does not help this situation in any way, shape, or form.
Excellent- Thank you for getting people to THINK. I find it sad that we always assume the integrity of any westerners involved in the international adoption process (agency, adoptive parents, etc.). While we generally tend to assume, when things go wrong, it was corruption or wrong behavior on the African side of things? This is pretty twisted if you ask me. We know all stakeholders on all sides play a role in the really ugly side of inter-country adoption from Africa. Here in Uganda we've seen and heard of so many cases where children were basically trafficked to the U.S. (we have a legal guardianship loop hole that makes this easier for us) to fulfill a specific demographic of children- people want girls under 2 yrs old- orphanages, agencies, lawyers, etc. will fill that demand. My point being- Trafficking happens because adoption from here, in many ways, has become a business for agencies, institutions, and others involved. It is a good thing that authorities take it seriously and look into the cases that are sketchy. Here is to hoping and praying that there is nothing sketchy to be found in the proposed adoption of this sibling group, but thank God it is being stopped if there is. I want to assume only the best intentions of every family who wants to adopt from this continent, and I think, for the most part, that is the case. Praying for the family and all those involved. That justice be done, whether it is the children staying with the adoptive family and coming to America, or the children being reunited with biological family in Ghana.
Actually, it's not. TONS of adoptive parents and people who care have shared this prayer request all over the web!
And you're reading a Christian mother's blog which is predominately about her ADOPTED BLESSINGS because......????????
I have been involved in the adoption community as an advocate for many years. This agency is one of the best around. Without a doubt.
I know, but this seems to be the starting source.
First hand information from Christine's sister this morning...
"Just got off an hour long phone call with Chris. So precious to hear her
voice. Please pray that all things will be passed to US, that they'll
get their visas this week and not have to go back. Pray the Lord will
move in powerful ways in favor. There are so many more kids left to be
adopted in Ghana. Pray this will not affect the adoption process
negatively. Pray for a peaceful resolution. Pray for the kids- E and I
(their bio boys) were so scared tonight and so sad. Curled up on Daddy and cried. Their other four are split up and hurting tonight. The oldest curled up on the floor and cried like a baby when he saw his daddy being hurt. Pray for justice. We need to mobilize the Body to prayer. There is something much bigger at stake."
This is a devastating situation!
And you're angry that the body of Christ is mobilized to pray for one of our own? Really? If it were me....I would want the exact same thing! To KNOW that I am not alone but that the army of God is holding up my arms in the battle that rages. And the truth about this happening in Ghana is that it really could have been anywhere. This stuff happens! We all know that. But trust me on this one thing....it has never stopped parents like us from diving into the deep end and going and rescuing our children. Not even this will stop us!
Actually, it's not. It was first reported by Christine herself (via cells phone while in the police car) on the Ghana Facebook page.
Thank you so mich for FINALLY answering my questions - I wish you had posted much sooner. Could I please have the link to the facebook page. I can not find it.
Dear Adeye, I am not at all angry. I too am a member of the body of Chirst and I pray that if this story is true, that God help this family. What I want to know is the truth. I have worked too many years helping orphans and have run into too many situations where things are posted and are not at all true or the truth is exaggerated. I too am an adoptive parent. Nothing would keep me from my adoptive children!!
I am an adoption worker and YES, potiential parents will have DEEP questions on Ghana and adopting there. So it hurts orphans around the world deeply when things are falsly reported.
I ask you to clarify where you receive your information. I could not find one true source reporting on this and it has concerned me greatly. Dillion International has reported nothing, I have also checked the Ramsey website, who are there in Ghana now, and they report nothing but seeing the family at the beach and enjoying fellowship with them.
I ask these questions for the simple fact that I have NO IDEA who you are. If you can not answer them, then I want to move on to someone who can. Is it so wrong to ask you how you come across your information? I pray I question and seek as God commands me to. If that hurts your feelings, then I am sorry, but I am not sorry for asking the questions.
The Ghana facebook page is private. But family and friends are updating here.
http://www.facebook.com/groups/329325640441729/
I realize it is private but I can send a friend request. Could I please have the site. The page that you reference does not have any information about posting from police cars - it only references selling t-shirts, etc. by the family.
I'm wondering why you think that this family being 'American born' should hold sway with the authorities in Ghana?
Here's the thing; Child Trafficking is a serious problem. It is horrible, insidious and, as is about time, governments are starting to take it seriously. I am NOT saying this family is involved with that. I am sure this family is a good, honest family who only have concern and love for the orphans they are trying to adopt. BUT, the authorities in Ghana will not know that until they investigate.
Ghana is a poor country. They do not have developed world resources and this investigation will take time. They cannot make allowances for Americans; each and every case must be investigated equally, and yes there have been Americans involved in Child Trafficking even if this family is innocent.
I hope this can be resolved quickly for all involved and I hope this family has relatives who can get over there to take custody of (at the very least) the birth children to get them out of that orphanage.
And BTW, to the person who has made insinuations of bribery in the authorities in Ghana; not helping, at all. Think about what you type, before you type it. Saying silly things like that can effect how the authorities look at the family. And if you think for one minute that the police in Ghana wont search the internet for information about this family you are mistaken.
No. I'm in the UK.
There's something incredibly fishy about this story, and I'm wondering if it is an elaborate hoax.
Secondly, Sally's comment above is brilliant and everyone should read it. Child trafficking IS a problem. International adoption is as much about supply and demand as any other business out there, and if people are too blind to see that, that's just sad. That's why most people object to labeling adoption as a "rescue mission." It's not, actually.
Third, if this story IS true, I hope this is a HUGE lesson to everyone NOT to take your biological children with you on trips like this. No matter how badly you want to take them. These two children are probably going to need therapy for YEARS to get past this trauma.
From their blog, it would appear they have been reunited, but I'm not quite sure. Are they still in Ghana? How should the focus of our prayers for them change (or stay the same)?
Thanks!
From their blog, it appears the family has been reunited, but I'm not quite sure. Are they all together now? Are they still in Ghana? How should our prayers for them change (or remain the same)? My husband and I pray every night for them, and are anxious to know how they are doing. Thank you!
