Ten years ago today our beautiful Hannah-Claire instantly crept into our hearts and lives. I will never forget the absolute joy of our first meeting. She bounced into the room, saw us, recognized us from pictures we had sent, and then promptly turned around and waved goodbye to her caretakers. And the rest, as they say, is history. I cannot believe how the years have flown by! No longer a … [Read more...]
an update
I shared this update on Facebook today but since some of you don't follow there, I thought I would share it here too because I know that so many of you have been praying for this family. Please keep Natalie in your prayers, friends. I heard this week that she is really struggling. She just lost her husband of 24 years and is left as a single mom to seven children--two who just came home from … [Read more...]
the silent hurt
A few weeks ago, I was having a conversation with a friend. She asked me, “What, for you, is the most challenging part of having a large family with many children who have special needs?” As a mom to two “typical” children, she was expecting me, I guess, to answer with something like “the never-ending doctors’ appointments.” Or “struggling with compromised immune systems through the long winter … [Read more...]
an outpouring of love
Such an incredible outpouring of love for Natalie today. What an honor it is to be part of a community of people who care so deeply and rise up when there is a need. I seriously love the glorious body of Christ! Over $18K has already been raised in the last 24 hours. We are so, so grateful for your sacrificial giving and the many, many prayers for this precious family. The days ahead are going … [Read more...]
can we lift the burden, please?
My heart is absolutely breaking for a fellow adoptive family tonight. Eric and Natalie Quesenberry travelled to Bulgaria to pick up their two sons who both have special needs this week. This morning Eric suffered a heart attack and died instantly while in their apartment in Bulgaria. This is an unimaginable time of heartache and sorrow for mom, Natalie, and her children. Not only is she left … [Read more...]
overcomer
It's hard to believe that three years have flown by since this precious boy joined our family. What a sweet, sweet blessing Kael is to us! He's our resident snuggle bug--on a lap is where you will find him at any given opportunity. LOVES food. Though he cannot chew his food, he loves his diet of soft foods and can drink a bottle of juice faster than anyone. At almost twelve years … [Read more...]
lifting the burden
So many people have reached out to ask us how they can help the Sykes family in their time of sorrow and grief. There is a huge way to help! My beautiful friend, Lorraine Patterson, also lost a sweet adopted daughter to complications from a heart defect several years ago. Since then, the Pattersons have poured their time and love into helping and encouraging other families who are walking a … [Read more...]
with an aching heart
Dearest friends, Sweet Mabel has gone home to be with Jesus. While we rejoice that she is finally free of pain and no longer struggles here on earth, our hearts ache that the story never ended the way we all prayed it would. We're heartbroken for our friends who have had to say goodbye to their beautiful daughter after just a few weeks together. We don't understand His ways, but we trust with … [Read more...]
