"Why do you call me, 'Lord, Lord,' and do not do what I say?"
Luke 6:46
So. Every now and then a book comes along that just gives you a swift kick in the rear. Last year we seemed to read a few of those. Mr Platt (Radical) and Mr Chan (Crazy Love) were sure to wake us up and help us realize what in the world we were meant to be doing in this life. It felt like 2010 was the year of reading kick booty books. At least it was for us.
But God clearly was not done with us yet. I picked up a book in the bookstore recently. I had heard about it somewhere along the line. I was looking for a good read, and so took it home with me.
Oh. My. Goodness. Gracious!
Awesome. Amazing. Life changing.
Seriously. It is just too good not to share.
Ever needed confirmation about what the Church SHOULD be doing?
I started reading "The Hole in our Gospel" and literally could not put it down. Richard Stearns writes from the heart, from his own personal journey as one of America's top CEO's who was called by God to give it all up and GO into the poorest and most desperate places on earth. His story is amazing and totally powerful.

We believe with all our hearts that God is doing something radical on the earth today. We see it everywhere. He is waking up the sleeping church. He is calling His bride to rise up and DO what He has commanded us to do. Yes, it absolutely is all in His Word...but He has also used amazing authors to stretch and challenge the body of Christ. I think that this is definitely one of those books.
Sitting in a church pew, singing a few good songs, and then trying hard to stay awake during the sermon is no longer good enough, friends. Having good intentions about starting a fabulous outreach and then never quite finding the time to get it done, well, it's no longer good enough either. God expects so much more of His church. He expects everything from us.
James 2:17 tells us that "faith without action is dead."
Ouch!
Never before have Christians needed to take hold of that verse and put it into action more than right now. There is a dying world out there. The orphan crisis is getting worse by the day--the statistics are more than my heart can comprehend. People are dying of starvation. Natural disasters are in the news daily. The widows are abandoned. The poor get poorer. The children suffer. Need is everywhere--these are desperate times that we are living in. The world is NOT called to go. WE ARE! God's people are commanded to take care of all these things. It's a mandate...non-negotiable.
Yet sadly, we've perfected the art of negotiating with God.
I'll be honest with you. God is stirring mine and Anthony's hearts like never before. We have run out of excuses as to why we should not do the things God has told us to do. The Lord has been shaking us up big time over the last few months. It has been a time of God stripping away from us the things that hinder and hold us back. We look back on our lives and know that we can never go back and do things the way we used to do them. The things we used to hold onto are no longer important--we don't care about them anymore. We've promised the Lord, "Anywhere. Anything." And we mean it. We are ready and willing to go anywhere and do anything for the sake of the Gospel. We have missed it so often in the past. Missed God. We've let our pathetic excuses and lame reasons about why we should not be obedient rob us of experiencing all that God has in store for us. We've decided this far and no further.
"Speak, LORD, for your servant is listening." 1 Sam 3:9
God is calling His church to action! We are to be do-ers of his Word. "The Hole in our Gospel" is about that very thing. DOING the Gospel.
Is God doing something in your hearts too? Is He shaking things up in your lives like He is in ours? I don't know about you, but we don't want to miss out on what the Lord is doing on the earth today. We just don't. No regrets.
Anywhere. Anything.
Need to step way out of your comfort zone? Need the encouragement to do so?
I would love for you guys to read "The Hole in our Gospel" too. If you haven't read it--and would like to--leave a comment and I will give away TWO copies. Any old comment will do. You have until midnight on Friday to enter.

I would LOVE a copy of the book! I LOVE your blog and started reading it after reading Rage Against the MiniVan. Both inspiring woman and families of God!!! Thank you for your humility and your effortless way of writing, it inspires me and keeps me faithful~! GOD BLESS!
Sounds like a life changing book! I also want to get my hands on the Radical book! I will have to see if we have it in our german bookstores!!
I would love to read it! My husband is reading Radical now, and then it will be my turn. So it would be great to read your latest recommendation while I'm waiting for him to finish!
I bought it and started to read it outside on my porch. I went inside my house to do something and got distracted and left the book outside and it started to rain soon after that. My book got ruined. One day, I'll read it again. I was planning to read it to my husband.
Ok I have really been wanting to read this book. I love your blog. Your family is beautiful.
I have been wanting to read this book. I love your blog. Your family is beautiful.
I really want to get Radical and Crazy Love based on so many wonderful reviews! Now I'm adding this one to my list! :)
Sounds like a very interesting book. I would love to be able to read it.
Hi Adeye, I have read for a while now, but not sure if I have ever commented...but oh I have been so blessed, encouraged, motivated, inspired, and moved by your blog. :) I just had to comment...I am JUST reading the book Radical..and it is a.m.a.z.i.n.g. I can't stop reading, and when I'm done I have to read it again! So now I see I have to order another book. :)
I've heard about this book and have been interested in reading it!
That is powerful! We listened to a podcast recently at church that basically said we read and read about God's will and his commandments to us but that's all we do. We study them, we memorize them, we know them frontwards and back, but we don't do them. The podcast equated it to telling your child to clean their room and when they return, they say, mother, I've studied about cleaning my room and memorized the actions. And you say, but did you clean it? Same thing. We KNOW what we should do but do we always DO it? Good post!
I haven't read it and would love to! Radical was very eye opening, for me, but at the same time, sort of along the lines of the way I had been feeling for awhile about the lifestyle of us and those around us. It's amazing how adoption starts to change your priorities.
looks like a great read!
Adeye, Over the past 2 years God has been bringing me to the same point that you are describing. Anywhere. Anything. Yes, Lord!!
Book sounds inspiring.Count me in on your giveaway. It amazes me you do so much already and still feel inspired to do more.Enjoy the light that shines through you.Warm Blessings!~Amy

Truly a must read for EVERYONE!!!!
1-11-11 sounds like a perfect day for a giveaway... love your passion for this new book!
God has been stirring my heart for about a year. Unfortunately, I can't use "we" in saying that I long to take that EE journey to bring home an angel or two. Praying that God aligns our hearts and brings us to a point that we know it's right, together.
Would love to read the book! Sounds awesome.
I've been having some turn your life upside down reads too, including Radical and Crazy Love! It's not a bad thing at all, so I would love to read another that shakes me up! :)
I have heard WONDERFUL things about this book!! I actually was waiting for it to come into our library so I could snag it...
Much love,
Future Mama

So entering for this book is like asking for a spanking? Great. :0) No, seriously. I'd like the opportunity to read it. Thank you for sharing!
Wow. The Lord is clearly using these books to move in people's hearts! We too read Crazy Love and Radical last year (and promptly heard the clear call to adoption). I can't wait to read The Hole in the Gospel -- even if I have to run out and buy it! :)
Hello from Hungary,
We would like to read that book for it is not available in this country. About us in nutshell, blessed with four sweet kids, one with autism, and a baby with DS. Ofcourse we would like to pay for the shipping.
Love,Krisztina and the Family
sounds like a book I need to read
Adeye I would love to read this book. I too believe there is a mighty work being done in this world. Thanks for your words. You are an inspiration to so many.
Mom of 7 and waiting for #7 and possibly #8 from Eastern Europe.
Jackie
Best book ever. Don't put me in the give away -- I have a few copies. Just wanted to agree with you!
Blessings!
God has been stirring my heart lately--but I am not sure where He is going with it yet. I would LOVE to read this book!!!!
The Lord is telling me to read this book. I was just looking into this weekend because another blog I read talked about it. Hope I win!
I would LOVE to read that book. I've been interested since the first time you mentioned it. Thank you for helping us stay on our toes.
Sounds great! Thanks!
Okay...Here's my comment. I would love to win it!
Love reading your blog...and would love to read The Hole in our Gospel!
:o)
Amy
I would LOVE to read this book! Thanks for sharing!!!
God is stirring in our hearts too...we hsve been surrounded lately in our community with so many people who are just buried within their own existence with no thought for anyone but themselves! The people of the world need to wake up to what is going on around them before it is too late! Love your blog...such an inspiration that keeps us going knowing there are still amazing families out there who get the big picture!
I have just recently found your blog and I love you and your family. I keep reading posts to my husband and my children. My heart is to one day do foster care and adopt. God has some work to do on my husband's heart about that but I am not worried in the least. We have experienced so many miracles in our lives in the last few years that I know it will be easy for God to do when the time is right.
I have wanted to read this for a long time...I hope to be blessed!!!
Wow! Definitely feels like a book I should be reading. I know what you mean about God working on you, I feel like He has been working on my heart and that of my husband big time over the past year. He has shown us what is truly important and lead us in the direction of doing something about it. But there is SO much more!! We can always do more, we just need to be willing. Thank you for info about this book!!
I feel that our church is stuck in the "old" ways and as a result losing its purpose. I pray that we will pull togehter and focus on what ir should mean to be active at church. Sounds like a great book. Thanks for sharing.
You have no idea my friend how much God is stirring my heart right this minute, stretching me in ways I never thought HE would, and pushing me to step way out of my comfort zone.
I have never prayed so hard about a ministry I believe HE is calling us to than I am right now. I would love to read this book!
Sounds like a great read - convicting and challenging.
I'd love to be used by God to make a change in our world!
Thank you for your inspiring words. Barbara R. [email protected]
I haven't read it, but I would love to.
Thanks so much for your blog posts--I look forward to what challenge you will give your readers each day/week! I agree that this book is awesome and I've given away copies to 2 of my friends already as well! So don't enter me in your giveaway...I just wanted to make sure you saw the free download that you can get from their website that is a 6-week small group study. After I read the book this summer, I recommended the study to our small group--and we did it. Let me just say that it is LIFE CHANGING! Praise the Lord for the shift that is happening in the church--and for authors such as Stearns, Chan, Platt who are willing to "tell it like it is!" Lord, help us all to not just listen, but to ACT!
I stumbled upon your blog from somewhere after reading MckMama's blog and seeing that little Sam from Reece's Rainbow had found a home! Since finding your blog it's been a wild ride! I'm a foster parent myself, but have always wanted to adopt. Your blog is so incredibly inspiring and amazing. I love your story and especially how you have learned how to let go of so many preconcieved notions of how motherhood should be and just really truly love your kids- just where they are. I've shared your blog with friends and they are just as rivited by your story and your writing. I can't imagine how you find time to write with 7 children, but you bless so many when you do! I ordered all three books you mentioned in your post this morning from Amazon.com. Looking forward to getting some booty kicking by God in 2011!
I would love a copy of that book!
Wow.
I have not read that book.
I too always have a nagging nudge in my heart that there is SO much more to do!
Willing. As feeble as I may be.
Praying for your family.
A vessel waiting to be poured out for the Lord and His gospel.
Love and blessings,
S
I've read Radical and actually have visited Platt's church. I would love to read this book also. I'm hearing wonderful things about it.
Brandy
This sounds like an amazing book and I would be thrilled to win a copy. Should I win, I will pass it around to friends once I read it. Thanks for the chance and thanks for sharing your heart with your readers.
am i eligible to win again? I loved "radical" and have definitely made adjustments in my life as a result. i have passed the book on and my list of friends who want to read it is growing. it has made a life changing difference. thank you for sending it to me!
Always refreshed to hear your convictions...I've read Crazy Love, Radical and Hole in the Gospel within the last year and a half and we have definitely had our world rocked. We know it's only begun and it encourages me greatly that we aren't alone in the stirring.
I have yet to read that book, it is on my "would like to read soon" list.
Thanks for sharing your family and journey with us!
Yes, I'm tired of being a lukewarm Christian, too.
I would love to read this book. I'm going to read the other two books you shared, as well.
I would love to read this book... This past year has been a difficult one... my mom was leaving church in a big van and accidentally hit and killed my youngest foster sister (she was three)... I'm in a place now where I know that if I'm going to live this life for Christ I need to live it differently than I have.... I don't know if you mail Canada though... :)
I would love to read that book! Ive heard from lots of people how amazing it is!
I would love this book:) Your blog is becoming one of my favorites! Such great testimonies and truly a woman after God's own heart!
Sasha
I would love one of these book! Your blog is becoming one of my favorites! What great testimonies you have. Truly a woman after God's own heart!
Sasha
My husband and I NEED to read this..... Sheri
I looked up "The Hole in our Gospel" when you mentioned it a couple of days ago, and told my husband about it. We would love to read it! I so enjoy reading your blog......you have such a beautiful heart.
Happy New Year to you and your beautiful family. I believe you are right. I would love to read this book.
I wouldn't mind a swift kick in the booty! ;o)
If my comment is chosen, I would like you to donate the copy of the book that you would donate to a local rehab library. As an individual who spent six months in rehab after an accident that left me wheelchair bound, I can tell you that the libraries in those places are in sore need of great books...as are the patients.
I could use a read like this right now! Thanks for telling us about it!
God IS doing wonderful things through - YOU - his servant! Thanks for sharing! I'd love to read it!
http://ourdailysmiles.blogspot.com/
i am hoping to get the word out on this child...

I haven't heard of this book Adeye but will go get it as soon as I'm finished reading another great one with the same theme, "Outlive Your Life" by Max Lucado.
Can't wait to see where/when/how God decides to honor your obedience to His will for your family!
I need a swift kick, Adeye! Sign me up!
would love a copy!!!
melanie
I can't wait to order this book. I can't even wait to see if I win. It's going on my Kindle tonight!!!
Mel
Thank you, Adeye. We do need a wake-up call. The struggles here at home with our adopted teens should not keep us from doing God's will...though we also know that battling the lies and hard hearts right here in our home is a large part of God's will! Bless your heart. I can't wait to see what God leads you to next.
~Debbie
I'd love to read it!
I loved Radical and need to read Crazy Love. Without a doubt we are being called to rise up. To stop asking why and start saying what. What are we supposed to be doing for His purpose? Stop doing church and start being church.
great post. Our Sunday school teacher recently asked "right now-if God told you to go to China, raise your hand in you'd drop everything and go." We were the only ones raising our hands. People are so caught up in their worldliness they have to "think about it" before giving an answer.
Wake up church!
I'd love to read this book!
I'd love to read it! Count me in!
I realized this morning that, for the first time in years, I am not doing any ministry OUTSIDE my home. I'm not sure how I feel about that, it's so new. I'm waiting on God to push me in the direction He wants me to go. Maybe this book will be the key!
Powerful post! Thank you!
I was blessed to hear him speak at a Women of Faith event and he was awesome! He is the real deal and as he spoke he often had to stop because he was so emotional.
Haven't read the book yet...I'm just now finishing up Crazy Love and have been convicted time and again but love that God is changing and growing me!
Much love!
Lisa
Yes I want to read it! I read Crazy Love and currently am reading Radical.
Preach on girlfriend, you hit the nail smack dab on the head where my heart is.
Any where, any place, any thing Lord.
Blessings,
~s
This sounds like a book that I would really like to read. I have been following your blog for about a month now. My husband and I are in the process of adopting again from China and now we are working on two adoptions at once. God does seem to be on the move and it is so exciting to see in our life and the lives of other Christians around the country.
I'd love some fresh look on the usual things. I really believe there is more in life then just paycheck, bills, new trends and a new issue of a magazine. I am a bit jealous for the people like the author of the book and his drastic decisions :)
Would love to read it but only enter my comment if you will ship it overseas;)
Adriana
Please enter me!
I would love to have this book Adeye! I too have heard of it lately. I will purchase it if not a gift from you! Thanks for the reminder.

May I say YES when You call, Lord Jesus.

Great giveaway! And an important one. So often we just plow through life living our "Good" and "Safe" life -- and not doing anything for Christ.
I NEEDED to read this post.
Blessings,
Rachel
Interesting sounding book. I've plans to get Radical today because of your review, but I'd love to win this one also.

I have just come across your blog in the last 3 weeks and oh how your words have struck my heart. God is doing a mighty thing through you Adeye! I would love to read this book! Thank you for the chance at receiving it :)

Sounds like a fantastic book. Thanks for doing this give away!
I would love the chance to get to read this book, I've seen it a lot last couple of months =)
Advocating for Olga and Kareen (two orphans from Reece's Rainbow) was totally out of my comfort zone- I HATE asking people for anything, most of all money. But thanks to your post (The Most Important One;)), I was convicted..and now these girls have families who are going to rescue them. Thank you, Adeye for your bold and beautiful heart for God!
Have seen this book recommended several times and would like to read it.
Blessings,
Barbara
Hi!
My husband and I just finished Crazy Love and have begun Radical, in part due to your and Anthony's recommendations. Would really like to read Hole In Our Gospel next!
Laura K.
This book sounds great! I read Crazy Love and loved it, ordered Radical because of your recommendation(hubby has loved it and I am still waiting my turn!) and now cant wait to read this one. Thanks for the opportunity to win a copy!!
Jenny
Ive been wanting this book for awhile... sounds good!
*Also read Crazy Love and Radical last year... I encourage you to read "The Irresistible Revolution" as well!
I would love to read this book! Ever since returning from doing foreign missions work a couple years ago I know I cannot be satisfied apart from helping orphans as that seems to be God's calling on my life. He seems to be calling me to get a few things right in my personal life first and to take some time to prepare. I am praying for direction as to when and where to go. I love reading about your beautiful family and am inspired to someday adopt a couple babies with DS
I'm in for the book! A couple of friends, who are in different places in their lives, are pushing me to read The Shack. I think it's probably a good book, but my soul hungers for something that's more satisfying...something to Fill Me and Keep me Full, something that I long for in my daily diet.
HE is calling, whispering, pushing, pulling, suggesting that I "move on". To "let go" of material things and surround myself with Him. To do His Work! Secretly, yet fearfully, I want to have everything that I don't absolutely NEED, to be gone. I want to take only what I need and move to Eastern Europe, to move into a small home right next door to one of the institutions, close enough to wheel myself over 3 or 4 times each day..to hold children, feed babies, whisper "I Love You" in sweet ears that crave those word.
Yes, fearful, but with the full knowledge that He is there with me every second of every day.
Thanks for your encouraging blog and lovely photos of your lovely blessings!
In Jesus' love,
Julie B.
I would love to read this book! I just read Crazy Love and Radical is next!
