A few weeks ago I was so blessed to be able to visit the beautiful country of Haiti. It was my first visit and I had no idea what to expect. I arrived late on a Friday evening and my ride wasn’t there yet. My flight was the last one for the night and the airport seemed to empty out very quickly. As I stood out on the sidewalk in the darkness and the hustle and bustle of people leaving to get to their homes or wherever they would stay for the night, I quickly found myself one of the last remaining people. It was there that I fell crazy in love with the people of Haiti. Every minute someone would come and ask me if I was okay. Did I have a place to stay? Did I need a ride? Would it help if I borrowed their cell phone to call for my ride? Precious, precious people. I was instantly captivated.
My dear friend and fellow Pure and Faultless board member, Tina, and I spent a few crazy busy days visiting orphanages and connecting hearts with missionaries and pastors who are doing the work of the ministry in Haiti-a country that is desperately struggling to rebuild after the catastrophic earthquakes five years ago.
We were moved by the persevering spirit of the people. Many have faced unfathomable loss that my heart cannot even imagine…yet…they have risen up and are overcoming obstacles that few of us can comprehend-with dignity, with grace, with determination to never give up.
Tina and I were so blessed to be able to spend a day with our new friend, Pastor Joseph. Oh, this man! He and his wife started taking in children many, many years ago. Most of the children in their care were found on trash heaps, on the streets, or were in some other very painful situation. Pastor Joseph runs his orphanage, his home, and his church from one dilapidated building.
I cannot even tell you how much our hearts broke that day as we walked around. How much we take for granted in our own lives!
They live with nothing! No refrigerator (because the cost of electricity is unaffordable). One tiny gas stove to cook meals when money is available to purchase food (which costs an absolute fortune as most is imported). They do the very best they can to provide and care for the children-more often than not going without themselves.
Crumbling walls and shoddy electricity which is clearly not to any kind of code.
I ached for the children!
Here’s the thing. Not only does Pastor Joseph care for the orphans in his care, he has also opened his heart to the children in his community. Each Saturday precious children line up outside the gate and wait to be let in. On any Saturday there are between 70-80 children who come to be fed and loved on. If there happens to be enough money for food, the staff will provide the children with a bowl of rice or spaghetti. Sadly, often there simply is not enough money to feed the orphans or the children in the community. Pastor Joseph shared with us that for many of these children, a meal on a Saturday is all they will get for a few days.

Pure and Faultless longs to be the hands and feet of Jesus to these children. But we need your help, friends. We need an army of people who have a heart for the nations and a desire to see His Kingdom come to the least of these to partner with us as we expand our partnerships into Haiti. The needs there are just so, so desperate! I had no idea.
How can you get involved?
Right now, there are two ways we’re reaching out to serve the children in Pastor Joseph’s care.
FOOD
We’re partnering with the incredible people on the ground at Outside the Bowl to provide nourishing, hot food to the children who come to Pastor Joseph on a Saturday and to provide a meal or two to his orphans during the week. Food should honestly be the last of their concerns. For many of these kids this is the only hot meal they get during the week. Outside the Bowl delivers a large bucket of nutritious food consisting of rice, meat and vegetables that can feed 70-80 children on a Saturday…all for about $50 a week.
SPONSORSHIP
Right now, there are eight children at God’s Children Orphanage. Each one has a story. Each one is precious and amazing and so dearly loved and treasured. Pastor Joseph takes God’s calling to nurture, provide and protect the children in his care so very seriously. Sadly though, he is just one man who has been trying to do it all alone. The weight on his shoulders is enormous. Our heart is to come alongside this godly man and his wife and relieve some of the burden that they are carrying. With all our hearts we believe that, as the body of Christ, we are called to help even when we cannot go or be there ourselves. We’re called to care from afar and support our brothers and sisters who are pouring their lives out for those in need around the globe. It’s just the body of Christ in action!
These eight children live with the absolute basics. We saw it with our own eyes. They have one change of clothes each. The little ones get some basic schooling at the orphanage, but more is required to equip them for their future. Our team at Pure and Faultless would love, love to see them fully provided for-fresh food every day, schooling, clothes when they need them, and clean water to drink. Each beautiful child below needs a sponsor.
Just $45 a month for a child will provide for all of their needs! And every single dollar will go to the child. Nothing withheld. What a wonderful Christmas gift to these children!

Yes, they’re just eight children in an overwhelming, unimaginable global orphan crisis. Can we reach them all? No, sadly. Most probably not. But we sure can love and care for the ones who God puts in front of us. Because to HIM…these eight lives are of infinite value. And so they are to us too. We love because He first loved us.
Thank you, friends. Thank you for rising up whenever there is a need. No words can ever express how thankful I am for your love, your giving, and your hearts.
