for such a time as this

When Adéye and I started talking about the Salem move to South Africa, some of Adeye’s first words to me were, “For such a time as this.” At the time, I didn’t know the full scope of what that meant or even how significant it was or is. But as conversations unfolded in the weeks and months that followed, I grew to understand the depth of the dream held so tenderly by Adéye and Anthony for many years. The dream of Sindisa.

Sindisa means to redeem or save a life in the Zulu and Xhosa languages.

Several years ago, God gave Anthony and Adéye a vision for a home for children with special needs in Adéye’s country of South Africa – a place they would name Sindisa. Sindisa will care for children who do not have living parents, those who have been abandoned, those who otherwise live on the streets, and those whose parents do not believe they are equipped to care for them. The Salem family dream is to be an example to other families of how parents are equipped to care for children with special needs, even training and teaching as they go that every life is valuable and beautiful, no matter how created.

Sindisa is more than just a home for children. The Salems also want to challenge the local, South African church to rise up to care for orphans in their country. They will partner with social workers to rescue children born with special needs before they leave the hospital – because it’s often on discharge that these children (thought to be a curse) are abandoned in fields and ditches. The Sindisa team will build relationships with local public hospitals so they know there is a safe place for these precious loves. The dream is big and amazing!

But the timing for the launch of Sindisa has never been just right. The Salems started their life together in South Africa and then moved to Australia where they served for three years. From there, they were called to the United States where they have lived for the last eleven years, faithfully answering God’s call on Anthony’s life to minister and using Adéye as an endless blessing through her blog ministry. Of course, we all love following along as they grow their family through the adoption of children, primarily those with special needs. From where I sit, this family is a picture of heaven on earth!

While their lives have been busy and their ministries fruitful, they never laid down – and God never asked them to lay down – the dream of Sindisa. Faithful Salems never stopped praying, knowing God would show them when the time was right to go. There were years during which they were certain it would be time and yet the pieces did not line up. Adéye and Anthony faithfully waited for all of their children to be ready for the move before they would say yes. They waited for the sending organization that God had planned for them. They waited for God to say “Go now” before announcing to the world that it is time.

Adéye’s words “for such a time as this” would take on a special meaning for me and for the Pure & Faultless team. God launched the Pure & Faultless ministry for such a time as this. God birthed Sindisa in the hearts of the Salems for such a time as this. God prepared the Salem children for such a time as this. God brought them a home in Port Elizabeth for such a time as this. And we know that God will bring the funds to send them for such a time as this.

Today, we kick off a fundraising drive to send the Salems to South Africa. Our goal is to raise $30,000 in 30 days. That’s $30,000 annualized. So if you sign up for $50 a month, that is $600 for the year. If you can provide $100 a month, that’s $1200 for the year. Listen to this: all we need is 50 people to agree to provide $50 a month for the Salems and this thing is done. Fifty of you! DONE! Or, just 25 people at $100 a month. And any variation of that! We even have people supporting them at $10 a month and WHAT A BLESSING! We are thankful for the faithful support of the Salem family and can’t wait to see the Sindisa dream come to life.

Take seven minutes and watch this video on their journey back to South Africa. We love you Salem family!

All contributions are tax deductible and can be made here.

We welcome you to share this post broadly so we can all lift up the Salems in prayer and send them fully funded to South Africa. To God be the glory, for such a time as this.

The Pure and Faultless Team
